Floor Spots @ Club Ceilidh
Club Ceilidh is always interested in hearing from Morris sides and other traditional dance sides who would like to perform a short floor spot at one of our events.
If you dance Morris, Border, Molly, Rapper, Clog, Northwest, Garland, Sword, or other traditional social dance styles, we’d love to hear from you.
What is a floor spot?
A floor spot is a short demonstration set during the evening, usually between ceilidh dances.
These are typically around 10–15 minutes long, and are intended to add colour, energy and spectacle to the event.
Club Ceilidh is a lively, participatory social dance night rather than a staged folk festival, so the best floor spots tend to be compact, high-energy and visually engaging.
What works well
- Short sets of one or two dances
- Strong visual impact
- Good use of the floor in a busy room
- A style that works in a social event setting
What’s in it for you?
While we are not able to pay dance sides for floor spots, we aim to make it worthwhile in other ways.
- Access to a large, engaged and lively audience for your side’s promotional purposes
- Promotion on our mailing list and Instagram
- Free admission to the full event for dancers and musicians, subject to reasonable limits (event dependant)
- The chance to showcase your side to people who may never have seen traditional dance before
What’s in it for us?
Inviting dance sides to perform adds a fun, memorable element to the night, brings more traditional dance into the room, and helps make Club Ceilidh feel richer, more varied and more connected to the wider folk dance tradition.
In return, we ask that sides also promote their appearance at Club Ceilidh through their usual channels.
Practical notes
- We usually invite one side per event
- The performance space is the main dance floor
- Sides use their own musicians, unamplified. Amplified musicians may be arranged in advance.
- Dancers and musicians are welcome to stay and enjoy the event afterwards
